Londonist stories

Place-anchored stories extracted faithfully from Londonist articles (their own wording), with location clues for later pinning. Geocoding is deferred to a dedicated pass — so far only points taken directly from articles' embedded maps are placed.

How it's built: Zyte (page fetch) → Sonnet extraction (only what Londonist says, their tone) + location clues (cross-streets, partial addresses, "a short walk from…"). Where an article embeds an interactive Google "My Map", we pull its hand-placed pins for exact coordinates. A dedicated local geocoding pass then groups repeated places (one lookup serves every story at that spot), caches all external geocodes in SQLite, and places the clean/obvious ones first — recording each coordinate's provenance; trickier relative locations ("a back alley off X") are deferred for research. Random samples of evergreen articles; ~37% yield a place-story.
